First Finish for 2017

I've been sick.  For two weeks.  They were the worst two weeks of my life.  But I have been feeling a bit better over the last few days.  And I was able to sew the binding onto my Shadow I Spy.
I had it quilted by Janet Chisholm.  She actually finished it just before Christmas, but I was not able to do anything with it.  On the last Friday of the year I picked it up and took it home, intending to finish it before the end of the year.  But, like I said, I got sick.  A nasty flu.  But - better late than never.

William really loves this quilt.  It contains all of his favourite things.  From strawberries to fish.  He loves sitting on it and pointing to everything.

He also uses it as a play mat, driving his favourite trucks all over it.

So this is officially my first finish of my 17 for 2017.  Now onto other projects.  I am linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts.

17 in 2017

I have decided not to start any new quilts this year.  Well, actually there is one that I have to do.  It's a quilt for a baby boy and it has to be done by March.   But other than that I am going to join the 17 in 2017 blog.  You can find the idea at Pomegranate and Chinz. But you will have to google it.  Blogger won't let me link it.

This involves making a list of 17 UFOs that I would like to finish this year or at least work on them when I can.  And if a finish happens than that is a bonus.  Making a list may take me a while because I have lots of unfinished quilts on the go.

1.  My Shadow I Spy.  This just has to have the binding put on it.

2.  My zoo animal applique baby quilt

3.  A scrappy strip quilt - I may send this one to Janet Chisholm for quilting

4.  My DD's blue and yellow Six Pointed start quilt - needs two borders and quilting

           (I'll add a photo later)

5.  hexie quilt - large flowers

6.  hexie quilt - red - just a few more flowers to sew on

7.  yellow scrappy quilt - needs quilting

8.  31/2 inch block quilt

9.  Nine patch Christmas quilt

10. red and white scraps

11.  Sampler quilt - I made several of these when I was teaching beginner quilting.  I will donate these.

12.  Rosewood Cottage quilt

13.  Applique in a day - Eleanor Burns

14.  Bear in a Berry Patch - Applique - I need to find this one

15.  Charity quilt

16.  Flower Basket - hexies

17.  I haven't decided what number 17 will be.

A finished Quilt for 2017

Drum roll please.  Here is one of the only quilts I finished in 2016.  This is the Super Heroes quilt I made for DS.  It got put away many times over the years.  I just didn't know how I would quilt such a huge quilt.  It measures 73" by 84".   So I took it to my favourite longarm quilter, Janet Chisholm.  She had it done for me to put the binding on and have it ready for Christmas giving.  DS was very happy.  He hung it in the stairway of his new house.  I forgot to take a photo, so DS took a couple after he hung it up.

Here is another view from the first floor.

I wish I could get a close-up of it, but I can't upload it to my photo zoombrowser.  He took the photos with his camera and emailed them to me.  But you get the idea.

Happy New Year 2017

I missed the New Year's Celebrations.  I was sick.  I slept for most of the last day of the year,  My daughter texted me at a few minutes to 12:00.  I was kind of awake, but not really.  I wished her and William a Happy New Year.  That was all I could manage until I fell back to sleep a few minutes later.  But now I am up.  And I have eaten a couple of little mandarins and a toasted English muffin.

Now I want to go back to bed again.  But not before I wish you all a Very Happy New Year. May it be the best year yet!

I'll be back later with a quilt that I finished.
