Weather Hexies - Week 8

It was a beautiful day yesterday.  I rode my scooter to my Tuesday morning Quilting Group.  It was the first time I was able to get over there on my scooter since before Christmas.

I also went to the library.  And on my way home I stopped off at the mall.  I know it is a bit optimistic, but I bought a packet of Arugula seeds.  Don't worry.  I won't plant them for a while.  But I wanted some Arugula last year and I couldn't find any.

I also bought a bunch of tulips.  Just because.

And here is my week 8 hexie rosette.

No freezing daytime temps.  Incredible!   But that should change in the next couple of days.  Tomorrow night we are supposed to get snow   Yikes!  The Friday morning rush hour should be a mess.

My sewing machine is fixed.  It's just perfect!  I am catching up on some of my projects.

Weather Hexie Week 7

I finished another weather hexie.  This is week 7 for me.  We had a few chilly days, but for the most part it wasn't too bad.

My sewing machine was not working.  But then Deb, told me about Larry.  He fixed my machine many years ago, but I had lost touch with him.  Deb gave me his new location.  I took my machine in to have him take a look at it.  He called me today and says I can come and pick it up.  Thanks Deb!

Many Hexies

I thought I would show you my hexie project.  I still have lots to do on this.  I am just making it up as I go along.  For the past month or so I have not worked on it much.  My eyes were giving me problems, but now everything seems to be okay again.  I plan to work on it this weekend.  It's a long weekend for us.  Family Day is on Monday.  I am using a white on white background and a variety of scraps for the coloured hexies.  This is a fantastic project for using up scraps!

Sarah of sarahdidit asked for anyone who was working on some English paper piecing to join her and show their work.  I don't know if this qualifies, but I am going to link up to her blog anyway.

I have been feeling a bit under the weather this week.  I don't know if it is because of a new medication my doctor prescribed, or something I ate, or a bug of some sort.  But it has not been a great week.

But I am on top of the weather hexies!  This is week 5.

Keeping My Mom Warm

Meow!  It's soooo cold out.  And it is snowing.  Yikes!  I don't likes snow.

'So I will go and sleep with Mom.  I's sure she is cold too.  So this is the least I can do for her.

I loves sleeping with her.  I loves her.  She only has a hospital bed, but that means we can be closer.  As long as she doesn't move all night, I is comfortable.  Prrrrrr.

And the snow scares me.  And the cold too!  This is the best place to be.

Weather Hexies

The temperatures have been all over the place the past few weeks.  And my sewing machine isn't working.  So when I saw Sarah's temperature hexies I fell in love.  They are done in roasettes,  One hexie for each day of the week.  The colours are based on the daily temps. They are all hand stitched - so no machine is needed. Sarah has been doing them for a long time.  But I just couldn't resist.  So I started with January 1st.  I now have 5 rosettes made and another one is coming along nicely.  Mine are all based on the metric system.  Celsius as opposed to Fahrenheit.  But it works.  I haven't chosen a background fabic yet.  But I have marked them with pins so I will remember where they go.

I made a long scarf a few years ago.  Sorry I can't find it to show you.   It was also based on the weather - a few rows each day based on the temperatures.  I really enjoyed making it.  But knitting is not my forte, hexies are!  So why not, I asked myself.

Felline Friday. Groundhog Day! - No! No! That should be Felix Day!

The sun is shining,  I sees my shadow.  You knows what that means.

I predicts 6 more weeks of winter.  Well at least 6.  Maybe more.  Who needs a groundhog when you've got a Felix?

My Mom loves me very much.  I is posing for her 'cause she needs help.  She took the battery and photo card out and now she needs to make sure they are back in her camera the right way.

Leaders and Enders

A few years ago I decided to use my stash of 2 1/2 inch squares.  I had many.  I came across Bonnie Hunters suggestion to use them for a leaders and enders project.  They are called Split Nine Patch.  Just what I needed.  I love leaders and enders.  Before you know it you have a quilt, without doing anything special.  I made quite a few blocks.  Not sure exactly how many, but I feel that I had almost enough for a quilt.

My 2 1/2 inch stash was again overflowing a few days ago.  So I thought I would make a few more blocks.  But I couldn't find the ones I had made before.  I searched everywhere, but to no avail.  So I just made a few more.

They are so fast and easy to make.

The Mitten Tree

William refused to wear mittens a few weeks ago.  But it was still rather warm so it really didn;t matter.  But as the snow came and the temperature dropped, I knew he needed something warm on his hands.  So I made him a pair, and he wore them each time he went outside.  They were black and white and I called them his zebra mittens.  He liked that.  (Sorry no photo)  Then my DD noticed that his wrists were cold,.  She asked me to make him a pair of mittens that would go all the way to his elbows.  I did and I hung them on my little Christmas tree.  The reason I did that is simple. 

At the library where William gets his books they had a Mitten Tree.  Patrons were asked to hang a pair of mittens on the tree.  Their tree was based on the book, The Mitten Tree.  It's a cute story about an old lady who knitts a pair of mittens for a young boy who didn't have any to keep his hands warm.  The mittens on the library's tree will be donated to a shelter.  Hats and other warm things were also asked for. 

I had made several pairs of mittens and hats over the past year.  My DD asked me if William could have them to hang on the tree.  I eagerly obliged.  He took his task very serious loved it.  Now he wants to hang all kinds of things on my tree.  I also finished a pair of socks that I started a long time ago.  I thought they would keep his feet warm this winter.

I took them off the tree to photograph them.  By the time I got around to taking the photo my tree was full of decorations.  Now I have a new task.  The mittens I made were to go over his coat.  That's what I thought anyway.  My DD wants a pair that will go inside his coat.  She's quite demanding.  LOL   But I still have some time before Christmas.  So that is what I will do.

We went to the Dutch Sinterklaas party this afternoon.   William met his 4 cousins there.
He had a great time.

I worked on this quilt this morning.  Then William came over.  That was the end of my sewing.  His mother has parent/teacher interviews today.  So I am looking after him.

These are only a few of the strips that need to be sewn together.  I have several more to make.  I will do that tomorrow.  

Having William here is like having a cat around - a very active cat.  Within a few minutes he had totally destroyed my layout.

Maybe when he is not here tomorrow I can get some serious stuff done.

Felix is still not well.  I am very worried about him.  My DS was here this morning.  He offered to take us to the vets.  But he is a math instructor at Centennial College and they are on strike right now.  I was afraid we wouldn't be back in time for him to go to a meeting.  Felix seemed a little better today.  I hope I can make him well with some good food.

Also, I had a migraine today.  So not much got done. either on my sewing or on anything else.  But while looking for some brown scraps I found the maple leaf quilt that I was working on a few years ago.   I am going to take it to my quilting group tomorrow and maybe get some advice on how to finish it.

I don't think I have much more to do.

Hope tomorrow will be better.

Sunday Slow Stitching, Or......

Day 12.

Was planning to do some stitching on my hexie quilt today.  I got some white pieces ready, but now I don't know what to do.  My Felix is not well,  He is having trouble walking.  My husband is not home and I can't drive.  So I am just sitting here watching him sleep.  Here he is in better times.

He looks so sad.  Poor Felix.
