I Do Finish Some Things Some of the Time

The nice weather is finally here.  Only a couple of days to go before summer starts.  Most of the gardening has been done.  Now it is just weed, weed, weed.  But that can wait for another day.  We had some unsettled days, weatherwise.  Lots of rain, thunder and lightning, hail, heavy winds and even a tornado just to the north of us.  But now the sunshine has arrived.

I have been quilting the Bob the Builder quilt for my DD's friend.  The baby shower is on Saturday and I had to get it finished.  So finish I did.  I put the last few stitches into the binding this morning.  There is still a label to be made, but I don't know the baby's name, so I think I will put that on after he is born.

While out in the garden I noticed my wisteria is blooming.  Our winter was very long and cold and I worried about this vine because it took so long to show any signs of life this spring.  But now it is doing fine.  It has lots of lovely flower racemes on it.

In all my excitement to get the quilt done, I have decided to link up with The Needle and Thread Network.  I think I have an hour or so left to do that.

Bob the Builder Baby Quilt

The top is finished!  Now I just have to sandwich and quilt it.  My DD commissioned me to make this for a friend of hers.  It is approximately 42 inches square.  The baby shower is not until the end of June, so I have time.

This was a fun project to work on.  I have another piece of fabric with dinosaurs on it.  Someone gave it to me.  I think I will make another quilt like this one, using that fabric.  But first I have to finish the maple leaf quilt.  Hope to show you that one soon.

Hey! What's that White Stuff?

I had wanted to show you what is on my design floor, but I can't concentrate on my quilting when my world is starting to look a lot like winter again.

My frog is freezing his little you-know-what off.  Not a happy camper right now.  I think.

And what about this robin?  I found him sitting in my apple tree, singing away and preening himself.  Kind of like using the snowflakes as a shower.  He seemed happy, but I'm not sure.  I wouldn't be.

I guess he has seen snow in April before and is making the best of things.  So I will do the same and show you what I will be working on in the next week or so.  First is my maple leaf quilt.  This is one of my UFOs that I want to get done this month.  I have a few stems to applique before I can finish it.  But that shouldn't take long.

And then there are my hexies.  I am still working on them.  I doubt if they will be finished any time soon. They are my ongoing evening project.  I think these will take another year or so.

And last, but not least is this quilt.  My DD asked me to make a baby boy quilt for a friend of hers.  So this is what I came up with.  There will be a total of 16 blocks with sashing between them.  I hope to have it completed - at least to a flimsy stage - by this weekend.  The focus blocks are made using a Bob the Builder fabric that I have had in my staff for a long time.  It will be good to get it used up.

Another Finish!

Yippeeee!  I finished another baby quilt.  Another 'just in time', for the week, the month and the baby shower that is being held on Sunday.

I used lots of scraps on this one, as well as a piece of colourful focus fabric featuring reptiles.

I found some bright, striped fabric in my stash and used it for the binding.  I am happy to get this one done.  Now it is time to work on some summer projects.

And this is the first poppy to bloom in my garden.  Love the colour of this one!

Pooh is Finished

I finished the 'Winnie the Pooh' baby quilt!  Just in time too.  The baby shower is tomorrow.

I did not have enough fabric for the back, so I pieced it.  The green fabric has little bees on it.  Thought that was fitting for Pooh's love of honey.  

Mimi did not jump onto the quilt when I put it on the floor to photograph it.  I wondered if she likes it.  But she assured me that it is fine.  She is just busy resting.  Got to get those 20 hours of nap time in, you know.  She just wants me to take the picture and get the heck outta there.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have two baby quilts that have to be finished in the next two weeks.  I can't show you the whole quilts, although I doubt if any of these future Moms even know about my blog.  But these quilts are not done anyway, so I'll just give you a little sneak peek.  The first one features Winnie the Pooh.  Can you guess what the theme of this baby's room will be?

 

I don't have much left to do on this one, only a bit of sashing and then the borders.  Then I have to piece the backing because it is not wide enough.  Hope to get that done today so that I can take it to my Tuesday morning quilt group where I can sandwich it at table height.  That makes things easier for me.

The next one is going to be kind of scrappy.  I am using all the left overs from Winnie's quilt and then some.  I think it will turn out cute.  It has to be finished a week after the first quilt, so I have not done too much on it so far.  I am doing the four-patches as leaders and enders.  So this quilt is kind of making itself.

This past weekend was a cold one.  We had frost warnings over night.  I don't have any annuals planted yet, so I don't have to worry.  Yesterday we had rain, sleet, ice pellets interspersed with beautiful sunny periods.  It was a strange day.  Today should be sunny, but the temperature will not go above 9C.  I am going to stay inside and quilt, quilt, quilt.  And maybe cook a pot of stew for tonight's dinner.  Stay warm if you live in Ontario!

My Soggy White World

We had a storm last night and it's not over yet.  First it rained about 10mm, which then changed to snow.  About 10cm of snow fell, but it packed down and has created a wet, swampy mess.  The guy on the radio cautioned folks to take it easy when clearing their driveways and walks.  It is being called, "heart attack snow".  Needless to say, I won't be going out there to shovel anything.

I took this photo from my back door.  I had to stick my head outside a bit to get this shot.  Water was dripping off the glass roof and onto my head, so I only took this one shot.  The storm came from the west, but the wind was from the east.  I don't understand it either!  LOL  You can see how the wet snow stuck to the east side of everything - the trees, bushes, my fence etc.  A moment after I closed the door, a gigantic chunk of ice slid off the roof and landed in front of the door, right where I had been standing to take the picture.  If I was a cat, that certainly would have been one of my nine lives. So much for winter.  I have had enough.

And now for what I really want to show you today.  I have completed the baby quilt to the flimsy stage.  It is called, "Jungle Path" and is a free pattern that can be found here.  This was really fun to make and I think there will be a few more in my future.  Lots of babies are being born this year.

It's Ground Hog Day

Will he see his shadow?  Apparently not.  Wiarton Willy has officially declared an early spring.

I can't believe that it is February already.  I wanted to finish the Super Heroes quilt last month, but I ran out of sashing.  So this morning I made some more.

I also did a block as a prototype for a baby quilt I want to make.  The baby is due any day now.  The happy Mom and Dad are good friends with my DS.  The quilt is called, 'Jungle Path'.  It is by Moda Bake Shop.  The pattern can be found here, and it's free.  I think I will do mine using wild animal prints.  I have lots of those.  Just need to buy some white fabric today.  I will do that when I take my sewing machine in to be fixed.  Yes!!! I am finally going to get it fixed.  I have been too long without it.

And on a non-quilting note, the following is not fit for human consumption.  I am rendering fat to make into suet balls and bars.  It's pretty disgusting, but the birds love it. And even if we have an early spring, they still need some yummy suet in their diet before it gets here.  Because we all know, you just can't depend on a gigantic rodent for your weather forecasts!
