Down Under

Remember that workshop I took last November with Australian fibre artist, lecturer and instructor, Gloria Loughman? Well, I finally finished the wall hanging she taught us that day at the workshop. The technique was called 'Layer by Layer'. Each section was done using a different technique. Some of it was fused, some was appliqued and some was pieced. Once the sections were completed they were joined together. The whole thing was then sandwiched and quilted. I used invisible thread for the quilting. If my wall hanging looks very similar to Gloria's it's because I used one of her patterns. She had several of them for sale on the day of the workshop. I only bought one, so from here on in I am going to have to create my own landscapes. And I am looking forward to doing just that. I call this piece, "Down Under". It measures 17in. X 25in. (44cm X 63cm).

The felines were noisy today. There was a lot of activity in the solarium - a great deal of running around, jumping on things and, for lack of a better term, play fighting. But each time I went to see what was going on, I was met with these rather vacant, guilty stares.

It was warmer today. And the sun was shining. Perhaps winter is on its way out and my furry family was just suffering from a case of spring fever.

I love the wall hanging...and funny about the cats, just like our own kids, they will run and jump but the minute you come in the room....well....your cats said it all.

I love your wall hanging. I still have mine to finish, hopefully I will get to it sometime this spring.

OK Hetty, it's a small world. I belong to the same quilt guild as you do. I became a member this past fall but was too late to take Gloria's workshops through the guild. They booked up fast. So I ended up taking them in Cookstown at the end of November.

Don't you wish you had a camera in the solarium to catch their antics?
They are beautiful and they do have that look of "who, me?" on their sweet faces.

'Down Under' is wonderful. It's like making a collage out of fabric! In terms like that I, having done collages, can understand.

Now the brain wheels are turning...

Thanks for this great post!

Hi, felines! Up until now when Hetty posted a picture of one of you, I thought I couldn't tell one of you from the other. Now as I see you at one time, I'm assured that I was right. I'm glad spring
is close, you twins!!

Congratulations Hettie ...just beautiful...you are further on your project than I am on mine, and it's going to take a while to become a priority again, but yours is some good inspiration!
