Scraps and Vomit

Day 27 of Blogtoberfest.

I spent yesterday afternoon in my sewing room, playing with fabrics.  I decided to make a few more Scrappy Stars, but after making only one, I realized how many 2.5inch scraps I have.

So I looked for a quilt design that would use a lot of them and I found one - Scrap Vomit!  Each of these blocks is made up using 49 2.5in squares.  That would go a long way to clearing out my scrap bin.  So I made one of the scrappy blocks and one of the more organized ones.

It was difficult to see the design in the organized block, so I thought a lighter fabric might work better.  I just placed the white squares on top of the purple ones.  Which block do you like better?

I'm still not quite sure what I will do with these blocks.  Continue or ?  We are having awful weather.  It is raining, a lot.  Supposed to rain all next week too.  Several storms, including Hurricane Sandy are coming together over us.  We will not get the worst of it though.  Not as bad as what is expected along the North Eastern Seaboard and Maritime Canada.  New York City is supposed to get snow!  Snow!  Isn't it too early for that?  Tell me what your weather is like where you are.

Scrap vomit. OMGosh, how funny. Wishing you no storm damage due to Sandy. And, Sandy is such a gentle name. Just think of Sandra Dee. I am alomost embarrassed to say our weather is gorgeous right now. It is 84 at 1:20 PM in my backyard. Not too bad.

Your star block looks great! But the vomit had me worried a bit! LOL I'm going to do a scrappy nine patch block Quilt next, since I've been making scrappy mine patch blocks as leaders and enders for my star blocks.

I would go for your first block! Love the balance in it and I don't think it gets lost in all the other scraps.

Catchy title! LOL. I was thinking of Mimi...

With the 7 x 7 blocks, I think the important thing is the black squares. They are what give structure to the block, and will give you a secondary pattern when you join them up. If you want to play that up next time, make sure your scraps on the *outside* round of the black squares are lighter in value, but still random.

I think the purple squares are fine as they are.

I would try at least four of the organized blocks, to see how the secondary pattern emerges. Fun!

Apparently you haven't heard. The more scraps you use, the more you generate! Don't know quite how that works, but my scrap baskets are never empty and I haven't bought fabric in a very, very long time!
